The only time of year it is culturally acceptable for Aussies to wear leather shorts (in public at least), eat your body weight in schnitzel, and hoist steins larger than your head.
But let’s be honest: fumbling for your debit card – or worse, trying to count cash – after a few Bavarian-sized beverage is an extreme sport nobody asked for.
Enter Prepaid Venue Vouchers: the little plastic lifesavers you didn’t know you needed.
Here is everything you need to know about sorting your festival finances before you even set foot in the Club.
1. Are They Mandatory? (Spoiler: No)
Let’s get one thing straight right off the bat: you do not have to buy these.
All our points of sale accept card payments, and most will also gladly take good old-fashioned cash. But if you want to streamline your schnapps-and-stein acquisitions – or shout your mates without handing over your actual bank card – pre-purchasing credit is the way to go.
Think of it as setting a budget, then immediately enjoying the convenience of swiping your way through the bar and bistro.
2. The Golden Rules of Stein-Currency
Before you load up on vouchers, keep these very real, very important terms in mind so you don’t end up crying into your pretzel:
Zero Refunds, But a 3-Year Lifespan: Leftover balance? You can’t cash it out at the end of the night. However, the cards remain valid at the Club for a whopping three years from the purchase date. Consider that unspent $15 an investment in your future self’s Tuesday night Member’s $15 schnitzel special.
Treat Them Like Literal Gold: Lost cards cannot be cancelled or replaced. If you drop your card in the beer garden, it belongs to the Oktoberfest gods now. Keep it safe in your Lederhosen or tucked firmly in your Dirndl!
Team Players: You can use them for single or multiple transactions at both the bar and bistro. When the balance finally hits zero, you can seamlessly combine it with cash or card to finish paying for that pretzel.
3. How to Secure the Plastic
Ready to prepay your way to festival glory? Follow this simple checklist to make sure pickup goes off without a hitch:
- Match Your Dates: At checkout, make sure you select the collection date that corresponds with your attendance ticket date so we have it all sorted and ready for action.
- Bring Proper ID: We’ll have your cards waiting for you at the Oktoberfest entry, but we need to know you are you. Have your ID ready to go.
- Sending a Designated Mate? If you aren’t collecting the vouchers yourself, you must include the name of your authorised collector in the ‘notes to seller’ section at checkout. Otherwise, your designated runner will be empty-handed and sad, and crying in their pretzel (but only if they have another payment method for it!).
TL;DR… Not mandatory, but clever.
